PROJECT IN A NUTSHELL:

Strategic reasoning: Item level apparel RFID is diffusing quickly and successfully in the world at the moment for several benefits and should do so in Finland too jointly by the apparel and retail industry. Manufacturers will soon have a requirement for RFID-tags in their products in USA and Europe anyway. Retailers will soon receive RFID-tagged products anyway. Potential to be entering RFID spearhead for supermarket business. Consumer orientation as a driver. Growing trend of online shopping requires supply chain efficiency due to customer expectations.

Objective: Apparel companies are well prepared to decide and take the globally working RFID/EPC architecture in use to improve the processes, and efficiency, and gain increased sales, and customer satisfaction. Provide companies with methods and set of tools for evaluation of the technology impact.

What’s in it for the customers: Joint survey to find out benefits theoretically and empirically in logistics, and warehousing (receiving, shelving, inventorying, picking, verifying shipments), and in shop operations (inventorying, shelf availability, consumer shopping experience, POS, EAS). Preparing for high volumes of tags in the future.

What’s in it for the members: Small business opportunity in the testing phase. Large business opportunity when apparel companies take the technology in use.

Implementation: Form a coalition, value chain analysis, process analysis, assessment and quantification of potential benefits and investments, testing, conclusions, and communication.
